We were delighted to be able to accommodate Transition Year Students from the three local schools in the Primary Care Catchment area, namely Ardscoil Mhuire Corbally, St . Munchin's College and the Gael Cholaiste.  There were joined by a further three Limerick students from other schools on this occasion.  The students visited the University of Limerick, Graduate Entry Medical School where they took part in a lab. session and attended a lecture. They visited Corbally House Nursing Home and two of the students spent a further afternoon in Catherine McAuley Nursing Home.  They also had access to O'Sullivan's Pharmacy to talk with pharmacist, James and manager Cleo during the week.  The HSE physiotherapist, Fiona, Speech and Language Therapist, Katie, Occupational Therapist, Maria and Public Health Nurse, Mary also met with the students and gave them a comprehensive look at what they do and their assessment and treatment techniques .  The Doctors gave the students presentations and practical time in the clinical rooms and they also met with the practice nurses, Joan and Carrie and Practice Administrator, Debbie.  Dr. James gave the students an insight into medicine in South Africa and they had a very thought provoking talk from a patient recovering from addiction.  Dr. Richard did a number of dissections with them and both he and Dr. Aoife split the group on the last day, where they talked thorough any questions they had.

We would like to thank the staff at the Primary Care Centre, the Pharmacy, the Graduate Entry Medical School, Corbally House Nursing Home, Catherine McAuley Nursing Home, and all the people who generously gave up time to make the week as informative as possible for the students and not forgetting the students themselves who were perfect guests !
